    What is UVC?

UVC (USB Video device Class) is a USB device class that describes devices capable of streaming video like webcams, digital camcorders or scanner etc. Microsoft has installed standard UVC driver in some of systems. The devices that conform to UVC criterion can work normally without installing driver. Most webcams use AVEO chip also support UVC, which means you can plug and play webcams without installing any driver through a CD beforehand. The standard UVC driver provided by Microsoft only supports common functions. For special functions, you need to install other relative driver, like AVEO UVC driver.

Which operation system has a built-in UVC driver?

Windows: Windows XP(SP2 or SP3), Windows server 2003, Windows Vista,Windows 7. Linux: Kernel version after 2.6.18 can support UVC, such as ubuntu7/ubuntu8/ubuntu9 which have Linux UVC driver. But some Linux release, like Fedora, doesn’t have it. You need to install Linux UVC driver.
Other: Mac, PS3.
If your OS is none of above, look like you need to install driver to make your webcam work.

Which operation systems can install AVEO UVC driver to support UVC device? (Only for Microsoft Windows system)

Windows 2000 doesn’t support UVC, you need to install AVEO UVC driver to make camera work normally. Before installation, make sure your system has installed DirectX9.0 and USB2.0 driver (Windows2000 sp3 or later).
In order to support some enhanced function like special effects, the installation of AVEO UVC driver under Windows XP, Windows server 2003, Windows Vista and Windows 7 is required.

What is the installation procedure of AVEO UVC driver?

For Windows 2000, you need to install driver before plug in device. Double click install file to start installation, click “next” or “install” button. Plug in device after the installation finishes. When device is plugged in, system will pop up the same warning window; just choose “Yes” to continue.
For OS after Windows 2000, plug in device first, double click install file to start installation. When a warning window “not passed Windows Logo testing” pop up, please choose “Continue Anyway”. After installation finishes, device will load driver automatically and ready for use.
Please download detailed installation manual from our website.

What is the classification of WHQL certification and how long does it take to get it?

(1) For video device, WHQL certification follow two logo testing scenarios:
◎To obtain a logo for a device
◎To obtain a Driver Quality Signature for a driver
Usually AVEO products are tested under video capture classification. The device would obtain Microsoft logo that certifies its reliability and performance. And the driver would obtain a Driver Quality Signature which certifies that it meets all the criteria and design requirements defined by Microsoft. It will not pop up a warning dialog box saying the driver being installed not passing Windows Logo test.
AVEO driver such as filter driver can also be tested under unclassified classification. It does not have right to use Microsoft logo, but will obtain a Microsoft’s signature, so the warning dialog box won’t pop up during installation.
(2) Most of the time, product testing with Driver Test Manager for each OS will take about 1 working day. The report submitted to Mircosoft will take 2 working days to get approval back.

    Are AVEO chips USB-IF certified?

Yes. AVEO chips are USB-IF certified on the silicon level, but the customer’s product level hardware design must follow both the USB organization and AVEO’s design guideline to get the USB-IF product level certification. AVEO also provides the product reference design for passing the USB-IF product level certification.

My OS is Windows Vista, why I can’t see the “camera and scanner device” in My Computer” or “Explorer”?

Windows XP supports WIA (Windows Image Acquisition) service, so we can see “camera and scanner device” through “USB video device” in “My Computer” or “Explorer”. But Vista doesn’t support this function anymore. You can download an application name AMCap.exe to capture and preview video.

Why do I see white image after running AMCap?

Please click on “preview” under menu “Options”->“preview”.
